Think of learners who read postings online but do not respond to others. These so-called lurkers do not fully actualize their social presence in the course. The same strategies (that is, small-group work, team project presentations, active discussion) that Carlos uses in his face-to-face course can be used in his online course. However, he needs to adapt them. Such strategies provide opportunities for a learner like Amanda to get to know others in her online course. Examples of these strategies will be addressed in Chapter 4.

This is a semi-conscious decision in which they put aside their disbelief and create their own interpretation of the work of art. They then share their interpretation in an open forum and critique and comment on each other’s interpretations (group involvement).
